Harley Davidson 96 cubic inch Motor
The Harley Davidson motorcycles generally use a single pin crankshaft and the significant fact about that is the connecting rods which ride together, in other words, one inside another, in that pin. Due to this fact, the amount of mass is large which includes the two pistons, rings, connecting rods, wrist pins. This large mass will change direction not once, but twice, which happens once at the top and the other at the bottom. This happens every time the crankshaft makes a revolution.
The engine vibration which varies between the Twin Cam 96 and the Harley Davidson 96 cubic inch motor motorcycle because of the direction change of the mass which will eventually lead to a major engine vibration. The company stated as the motorcycle giant Harley Davidson produces two versions of the Big Twin engine. When considering the Harley Davidson 96 cubic inch motor, it is used in the Harley Davidson Dyna and Touring models. This is mounted in the chassis of the said motorcycles with the arrangement of particularly designed runner mounts and metal linkages.
The Harley Davidson 96 cubic inch motor engine will be able to rotate smoothly around the center similar to the crankshaft because of the metal links. This, however, will prevent any types of additional movements which are bound to happen in the same direction. The rubber mounts of Harley Davidson 96 cubic inch motor engine is installed in the particular area where the engine will cause vibrations in order to dampen the rotational shaking effect. This happens as the side-to-side movements are eliminated. Along with the Harley Davidson, 96 cubic inch motor motorcycle and others using this technology are referred as ‘rubber-mounted' by many of the Harley riders.
When taken into consideration the Dyna and Touring model motorcycles it is a bit shaky while the engine vibration is much more noticeable, especially at the seat level and the handlebars also including the floorboards & footpegs. The said Harley Davidson mounting system of Harley Davidson 96 motor comes into play as the rpm of the motorcycle rises. The vibration of the engine reduces and the Harley Davidson motorcycles become very comfortable and smooth to ride especially at highway speeds.
When considering the Harley Davidson’s Softail models they represent a whole new category and are totally different. The engine, in this case, is the TC-96B which is present in the chassis. While this engine has the pistons, heads, connecting rods and cylinders similar to that of the other it is still different in various ways. This includes the feel of the powertrain in comparison with other Harley Davidson models. This difference becomes very obvious at one stage. That is because when the motorcycle is almost idle there is absolutely minimal vibration apart from the fact that the engine is bolted straight to the frame where the rubber mounts or linkages are absent.
When compared with the TC-96 it tends to shake a little back and forth at near idle. In the Softail chassis, the ‘B’ engine rather tends to sit calmly with minimal vibration at the rider’s touch.
