Introduction to United Bikers of Maine

People who are affiliated with motorcycles and bikes keep increasing day by day. There seems to be a rise in the number of bike enthusiasts these days due to mass advertising and community rides happening in all countries. This has led to the formation of several organizations and clubs. Many clubs, with different purposes or locations, have come together to support the entire biking community. One such effort can be seen by the United Bikers of Maine (UBM), a motorcycle rights organization.

Purpose of the United Bikers of Maine

The purpose of UBM is to unite people who share a common love for riding, regardless of the brand of motorcycle they ride. Unlike clubs that focus on specific models, UBM welcomes all riders who are passionate about motorcycling. Their mission is to create a community that supports all types of riders.

Advocacy and Legislative Efforts

UBM plays a major role in advocating for motorcyclists’ rights, not only in Maine but also on the federal level in Washington D.C. They promote fair motorcycle legislation and work to fight against any anti-motorcycle legislation. UBM works alongside the Maine Motorcycle Political Action Committee (MMPAC) to protect the rights of riders.

Helmet Laws and Rider Rights

UBM advocates for the right of riders to choose whether or not to wear a helmet. In Maine, a law exists requiring passengers and operators under 18, as well as first-year operators, to wear a helmet. UBM encourages riders to follow the law but firmly believes that the choice should lie with the individual rider.

Organization Structure and Meetings

The Executive Board of UBM consists of a President, Secretary, Treasurer, and 16 County Directors who represent Maine’s counties. Additionally, the Board of Directors includes the Executive Board and 160 Area Representatives. These representatives gather for meetings every fourth Wednesday of the month at the American Legion Hall.
